Most of the Psalms extol the power, strength, and saving capacity of God. God shows these attributes in the way that man is rewarded and punished. Above all however, God is to be glorified, and man is to shout his Glory and Power. In Psalm 141, David asks God for guidance and mercy, combined with his plea for help in his desperation. He offers thanksgiving to God, and he asks that God show mercy on “us.”
Fulfilling the Old Testament, Paul teaches that we as believers must honor God by being disciples of Jesus who shine light out of darkness. Believers show a treasure from jars of clay (2 Corinthians 4). The treasure of the gospel is contained in these jars of clay, these vessels which are us.
The gospel is a powerful treasure, allowing a vulnerable man to spend eternity in the presence of the creator of the universe when the jar of clay is broken.
The treasure must not stay hidden the jar. It is also a treasure that we are to share. We must tell of the power of the resurrection, the strength, power and saving power of Jesus, for we are never forsaken. We are to glorify God by the fruit of our faith, showing that the power is from him, not from us.
Why would we not always be joyful, knowing the treasure within us?
