The Bread and The Wine
A Holy week meditation by Connor Searle
The suffering and sorrows of all of mankind,
could only be mended by bread and by wine.
Pain vast as the sea;
He purchased his Wife.
One death to end the violence and strife.
Our eyes spent with weeping, our stomachs they churn.
From Hell’s cavernous depths; a hunger, a yearn.
A hunger for justice,
The world set to rights,
One answer is giv’n, an innocent life.
Bread broken like bones, wine poured out like blood,
A hand-painted icon; death beaten by love.
The many made one,
The stranger brought near,
Our suffering defeated; our ransom from fear.
So drink not unworthy this blessing we bless,
discern here the Body, transgressions redressed.
Enthrone now the Son,
for years without end:
He had pity on Zion, and brought her to mend.
Thank you for sharing your poetic meditation with us. You have blessed us.
I think a lot of this fits together wihotut even trying, at least with regard to the fasting in secret and praying alone in the privacy of your closet.I was reminded this morning rather abruptly that a Lenten diet sort of causes automatic antisocial behavior whether you like it or not.Kaboom.
