A Call for Awareness and Sharing: Psalm 78
by Jeff Hodgson

Tuesday, March 1 – Psalms 78; Gen. 45:1–15; 1 Cor. 7:32–40; Mark 6:1–13
(BCP Readings for today)

In Psalm 78 the psalmist is addressing Israel and recounting how the Lord blessed them, how they turned from Him, how He punished them, how they repented, how He forgave them, and how the cycle of blessing, disobedience, punishment, repentance, forgiveness, and blessing repeated itself. He is urging the people to remember these cycles with gratitude to the Lord and to share this story so that future generations appreciate what the Lord has done for His people and what He will do to His people if they turn away from Him.

The message, of course, is for us also. Let us stay aware of how we are blessed by the love and unmerited grace of our Lord. Let us also stay aware of the righteous judgment that awaits us. Let us also heed the psalmist by sharing what we what we know about God with others who have not yet come to know Him.
