Advent Reflections

The Perfect Gift

December 16: AM Psalm 45; PM Psalm 47, 48; Isaiah 9:1-7; 2 Peter 1:12-21; Luke 22:54-69

Advent is a season of waiting, of preparing. Making a home in our hearts as we wait to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Wait for it…… wait for it……BAM!

I’m sure you’ve noticed that retail stores would have us believe that the definition of Christmas is “BUY. SPEND”

I am almost assaulted by the over-the-top ‘deals’ displays at every turn – it’s become a “consumer consumption compulsion!”
STOP. BREATHE. Wait for it……

As Christians it would seem we have to search harder harder to find Christ in Christmas out there. Or sadder still, when we do see a Nativity display it is mocked, protested, or destroyed. “winter solstice, holiday vacation, 50% off”…all of that noise seems to be gaining volume and trying to drown out the message of Jesus. Wait for it……

If you look, God is there, in a church sign: JESUS: God gave Him, Mary wrapped Him, Have you received Him?

As our world gets caught up in office parties, gift shopping and swapping, cleaning, decorating, running errands and commercialism
WAIT…Breathe, light a candle and smile because we already have the BEST gift, the perfect fit:

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Savior is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

So unwrap Jesus into your heart, and then give Him away to everyone on your Christmas list!
